  • March 17, 2006 - Help Decide on the New Format for the Archive!

  • A poll has been cast on the Sith Chicks mailing list to let YOU decide on the future of this archive! Please visit the poll at the following link and cast your vote.  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sith_Chicks/surveys?id=2169504  You must be a member of the Sith_Chicks mailing list to vote.  If you are not a member of the list, and would like to vote, you are more than welcome to join the group and do so.

If it were up to you, which type of archive system would you like for Sith Chicks?
    • Option 1: A traditional archive, much like the current archive, only database driven, so it is easy to sort or search stories by author, title, main characters, rating, subject category, etc. Fiction will still be submitted via email as usual, and then converted to HTML (by Crysta or an apprentice) and added to the archive, where it will magically appear a short while later.
Drawbacks to this option include a longer set-up time before the archive is functional, and lack of author control over your own fiction.
    • Option 2:  An automated archive, (like fanfiction.net or harrypotterfanfiction.com). Authors will have the ability to manage their own stories by creating accounts and uploading their stories themselves. Possible features we could use include a commenting system for feedback, moderator approval (to validate that actual fiction is being uploaded, rather than spam), ratings system, and sorting/searching by genre, character, rating, author, and title.
Drawbacks to this option are that it requires authors to manage their own fic, it might lessen the amount of fic sent to the mailing list, and it means starting from scratch with an empty archive.

In either case, the old archive will remain in place until everything has been transferred to the new system.

Your opinion is important, so please vote and let us know which option you prefer!

  • June 28, 2003 - The Archive Has Been Updated!!
  •
  • Yes, you read that correctly!  Today 162 new fanfics have been added to the archive.  Careful, don't get your hopes up yet, because this update is far from complete.  In fact, it only includes fanfics posted between April and September 2002.  Why did it take so long, you demand?  Well, there are a couple of reasons.  First, 162 fanfics is almost one quarter (25%) of the previous size of the archive.  It was apparently THE summer for fanfiction!  162 fanfics is also one fifth (20%) of the new total.  However, it was also your archivist's senior year of college, and she was a little busy.  Sorry about that, but she is working very hard at getting the rest of the updates done, and possibly revamping the archive to make it even better.

  • Now, if any of the information in the updates is wrong, notify me and I will fix it.  Do NOT email me asking when the archive will be updated next.  I'm working on it, I promise.  Also, do NOT email me wondering why your fic isn't in the archive yet.  I still have hundreds of fic to add yet.  If you wrote it after September of last year, it's still sitting on my hard drive, waiting to be compiled.  Please be patient with me.
