Twins!!
You hiss waking up suddenly. The room is
dark save for the light
streaming in from Titan's moon. Your back rests against your
makeshift headboard of pillows and the wall. Loving yet strong willed
Jedi sleep on either side of you. Qui's expression is of peaceful
contentment while Ardeth's looks like a little boy settled down for
the night.
//My own bed is much more comfortable than
this.// You moan wincing
again feeling your R2 unit sized belly. For the last two months back
pains have been the norm. The joys of carrying twins by two men who
tower head and shoulders over you.
The babies shift. A sharp pain stabs your
lower abdomen. It
subsides to a dull pain. //Gods' a contraction. Why did I agree to
this?//
Your answer shifts and snores a little more
loudly next to you.
Ardeth wanted the babies to be born at home instead of in a hospital.
You said no, he insisted. You threw a fit, screaming about doctors,
medicine, proper instruments, emergencies. And then he then he
dropped the bomb. He said, do it for my grandmother. How could you
say no?
So, you all picked up shop and moved over to his
parent's house
awaiting the babies' birth. Which you know from experience is
happening now.
"Oh no." You whimper feeling your
water break. A cool fluid rushes
between your legs. Suddenly the dull thudding pain increases to a
sharp one. You begin to wheeze.
"Ardeth...water." Twisting and
shifting in the bed, you hiss like a
leaky air hose
You shake him continuing to hiss.
"Ardeth."
He stirs gently, "Hunh?"
"Water..." Your eyes are closed
tight. You puff greatly. //Gods//
Contractions waxed and waned, as your babies shifted inside of you.
"One moment." He mutters through
closed eyes and struggles out of
bed. Ardeth shuffles over to a pitcher of ice water sitting on the
dresser not noticing his damp sleep pants.
"NO!" You clinch your teeth.
Feeling like you have to take a dump,
you bear down. They are coming now, "My water just broke."
"What?" Qui's eyes pop open.
He lifts the sheets seeing the
evidence on himself and the linens.
"I'll get my mother. Take her to the
birthing room." Ardeth
directs before dashing out the room.
"All right easy now." Qui helps
you out of the bed.
The babies rest low in your belly causing you to
waddle, "Qui
they're coming." You say scared you're not going to make it to the
next door.
"Shhh...everything will be fine."
He says supporting you as you
walk.
You're back is supported by the birthing chair
while your legs are
in stirrups. With your wet hair plastered to your face you puff
gripping Qui and Ardeth with each hand.
"Steady keep breathing,"
Grandma's says concentrating. She turns
to Devi, "Get the water, towels and the blankets."
Puffing, you want to push. Qui kisses your
forehead.
With a surety of movement, Ketura's once shaky
hands ease into you.
You bite your lower lip, feeling her fingers test the dilation of your
cervix.
"She is ready. They are coming."
Cloudy brown eyes peer at you
full of joy. "Get Ardeth."
Devi nods and exits the room.
"Qui-Gon try to calm her. I need for her to
just breath."
He nods. The Master's typical serenity
barely masks his excitement
and anxiety.
"Remember what I taught you?" Qui
caresses your sweaty face.
"No." You shake your head
frantically.
"Inhale slowly and exhale slowly."
He directs you calmly.
Following his lead, you began the calming
meditation just as the
contractions stack atop one another. Ardeth grip your hand, your eyes
never leave Qui.
"You're doing fine." He soothes
"I have to push," You swear in Titanese
The stirrups in the birthing chair are brought
forward. Your jowls
puff in and out. All of your muscles in your uterus tighten. You
feel one of your babies make it's way down the birth canal.
"Chana give me a good push."
Qui and Ardeth tightened their hands as you bare
down.
"You are doing fine." Ardeth
kisses your cheek.
Suddenly struck with a strong contraction, you
grunt pushing once
more.
"Come on," Grandma urges..
"Oh my!" Devi cries with a joy,
"The crownin g!"
"Chana you can do it," Your
family urges you on.
"Almost there..."
Suddenly their is a build up of pressure, a
fierce stretching and
then it subsides.
"The Force be with us, she is here!"
Devi sobs gleefully, "It is a
girl."
Grandma skillfully clears the baby's airways and
places the tiny
pink newborn in your awaiting arms. Her tiny strangled cries fill her
lungs with air.
Tiny hands quake as she yelps briefly then
quiets. Little eyes open
and peak at her mommy and daddy.
"My little girl." The master
cries with unrestrained tears. He
kisses her delicate face.
Your lips caress her soft slick head. Just
a whisp of brown hair
crowns her. Instantly, your in love.
"Qui-Gon cut the cord." Grandma
hands him the vibroshiv.
__________
Ardeth grips your hand. You are exhausted
but your boy is ready to
come now. Devi has taken Qui's place at your side while he tends to
your little girl. She wipes the sweat from your eyes with a cool
cloth.
Grandma voices quivers, "He is beautiful, I
see his head."
You silently grunt, the pain is great...his left
shoulder, then
right...
You scream, a baby cries.
"It is done!!!"
They speak jovially in Titanese around you.
You collapse back into
the chair as your tiny son is placed on your chest.
His little body trembles as he shift his head latching on to your
nipple. Immediately he suckles. Ardeth wraps his arms around you and
his son. Sobbing together, you kiss.
______________________________
Ardeth and Qui rock back and forth in their
chairs gently cooing to
their children as you sleep. Grinning proudly the two papas introduce
each other to their children.
Ardeth's eyes wander over to your sleeping form
and immense love
sweeps across his face. His steps are slow and careful.
"I love you." Short loving pecks
are dappled on your cheek. Gazing
at his son, he declares proudly, "Chana he is beautiful."
Your son dozes in his father's arms.
>
Kissing your beautiful children, you are
oblivious to the gathering
of people who are in the bedroom with you. Ardeth's parents, his
grandmother, the village elders, your life- mates...they mean nothing
compared to the little ones in your arms.
"Have you decided on a name?"
Chief Elkhana asks Qui-Gon.
Qui edges his way through the crowd and sits on
the edge of the bed.
Cerulean blue eyes gaze at you and then his sleeping daughter.
"I love you." He mouths silently
and turns to the elder, "Yes. We
shall call her Sagirah-Nituna."
Tears stream down your face. You know the
name well. It means
Little One's Daughter. Qui-Gon kisses you again and smiles at his
child and moves out of the way for Ardeth.
"Ardeth have you named him?"
Bohdan and Devishah clutch each other happily.
Grandma ambles over
to Ardeth places a kiss on the top of his head before taking a seat on
the other side of the room.
"Yes," He gazes at you the only
way he knows how...with love,
"Sakeri-Nadiv."
Nodding with approval you kiss him lovingly.
-----------------------------
Standing in the mid-afternoon light, your son
Sakeri rests in a pouch
attached to the front of you while Sagirah-Nituna is carried in your arms.
The porch awning protects your eyes from the glaring sun yet you still
squint-- from tears.
"Gods please don't go." You say
breathily seeing the men you love packed
and ready to leave.
Qui-Gon Jinn and Ardeth Fey stand before you
silent, their sorrow filled
eyes try to remain strong.
Ardeth approaches you first. He places a
delicate kiss on his newborn son,
only a few weeks old.
"I will try to return as much as I
can." His gaze turns to you, firm lips
press against yours. Your mouths open to a delicate kiss.
"Wife, I love
you."
Ardeth steps away, Qui caresses your face.
Large hands are so gentle. Your
chest heaves up and down jostling your babies.
"I will be back." The Master says
softly. Wind stirs his long chestnut
hair.
"Promise?"
"Promise." He kisses you and then
his daughter, "Little One, take care of
Niti, always let her know that daddy loves her."
Tears flow freely down your face. Qui steps
away.
"Go back inside." Ardeth urges.
You shake your head.
"Go." Qui-Gon insists.
Stepping inside, you watch as your men step
inside an awaiting speeder. The
Temple has made all of their arrangements for their return. Their return
to
the Temple and to their new lives as masters to their new padawans.
Your eyes follow the speeder off in the distance.
Sakeri and Sagirah begin
to cry.
"What am I going to do now?" Your
voice quivers.
