Chapter 1
"Ow!"
5-year-old Obi-Wan Kenobi had just been knocked to the ground by an older boy named Xanatos. They were practising their lightsaber skills in a special dueling match and Jedi Master Yoda was watching them. Yoda had noticed that Obi-Wan was quite powerful in lightsaber matches, so he teamed Obi-Wan up with Xanatos, to see whether if Obi-Wan will be able to fight an older boy.
"Careful you must be, Xanatos. Much younger than you, Obi-Wan is." Yoda called out.
"I'm sorry, Kenobi." Xanatos apologized politely to young Obi-Wan. He helped the smaller student up.
Obi-Wan studied Xanato's face. The older boy was serious about being sorry for what he had accidently done. "It's okay."
"Practise your skills, you must, Xanatos," Yoda said. "Coming tomorrow in search of a Padawan, a Jedi Master is."
"Who?" Xanatos asked.
"Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn."
Cool, little Obi-Wan thought. Xanatos is lucky. He might get to be Master Qui-Gon's apprentice, while I had to wait until I'm 13! He then stuck out his little hand to Xanatos as he spoke. "Wish you luck!"
Xanatos smiled gratefully as he took his young friend's hand. "Thanks!" Obi-Wan's so little, but he understands me.
Without another word, Obi-Wan slapped his training lightsaber onto a rack and took off to the shower room. Xanatos looked at him until he disappeared. I hope Obi-Wan's right...I hope I will become Qui-Gon's student.
Chapter 2
Despite that the Padawan was all sweaty, Xanatos did not mind. He was fighting for the honour of becoming the powerful Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn's apprentice. The boy's opponent was a popular and nice boy named Haedan. Although Haedan was younger than Xanatos, he was also much more powerful than the older student. Suddenly, Xanatos attacked furiously at Haedan's neck. The young Jedi barely had time to block the sudden blow. Xanatos disarmed Haedan and gently put his lightsaber blade onto the younger boy's neck. "XANATOS WINS!" TC-135, the referee droid, shouted in a mechanical voice.
Qui-Gon flashed Xanatos a smile and turned to Yoda, who was sitting next to him. "Xanatos fought well. I'll take him as my apprentice."
Yoda frowned. "Certain, are you? Dangerous and angry, this boy is. Sense it, I do."
"I will train him. Besides, he might not turn to the dark side." Qui-Gon insisted.
"Very well...Xanatos, your Padawan shall be." Yoda sighed as he got on his feet and exited the room.
Just as Xanatos had finished tossing his stained tunic into the laundry basket, Qui-Gon stepped up to him. "Well done, young one. I've spoken to Yoda. You are to become my Padawan."
Xanatos couldn't believe his ears. What! I'm actually Qui-Gon's apprentice now? As if he had read the young Jedi's mind, Qui-Gon smiled and clapped the young Jedi on the back. "Yes. I'm your master now, Padawan."
Chapter 3
With Xanatos gone, Obi-Wan couldn't help but feeling lonely. He had just lost a friend and training buddy. They used to play around in Obi-Wan's room, building different starship models. Now Xanatos had left his young friend alone toying around with the mini starships to be with his new Master.
As the Jedi student played with his toys, his friend Yalere knocked on his door. "Can I come in?"
"Sure."
8 years old Yalere opened the door to find his friend curled up in a corner of the room, making starship sounds to mix in with the starships he was "flying" around. Yalere sighed. "Obi-Wan, you'll have to learn to be more mature. You're almost 6, and 6-year-olds don't play around with starship models!"
"Yes they do!" stubborn little Obi-Wan replied angrily.
His friend sighed again, then stepped out of the almost-6-year-old's room.
Watching Yalere go, Obi-Wan wondered if Yalere was saying the truth about kids aged 6 not playing with toys anymore. "Who cares? I'm almost 6, that means I'm not 6 yet!" His attention then went back to his toys again.
Chapter 4
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
It was finally Obi-Wan's birthday! His friends, Yalere, Garen, Reeft, and Kertis were all there. Young Kenobi started to unwrap his presents. He got toys and even an electronic notepad. The last present was a model lightsaber made by 11-year-old Kertis. "Thanks, Kertis! That was a present I'll keep with me forever!"
Kertis smiled. "You're welcome!" his smile soon faded. "This is my good-bye present for you. Jedi Knight Palran Kuln is picking me up on my first mission tomorrow. He's my new master."
Obi-Wan burst into tears as he said, "Kertis, you h-had b-been a good friend. I-I'll miss you!"
They hugged. But little does Kenobi know that his friend Kertis will be his enemy in the future.
Eight years later
Chapter 5
"Keep your guard up, Obi-Wan," Qui-Gon Jinn instructed. He was viewing Kenobi's practice with training droids.
The blind-folded Obi-Wan raised his lightsaber, just in time to block blaster-fire launched by one of the droids. The small droids may be small, but they can be fast, Obi-Wan thought. Being a 14-year-old sure can be a difference to what Obi-Wan used to be: a 6-year-old wimp. 8 years had passed since his 6th birthday and the young Jedi is no longer an in-Temple student. He now has his own Master, which is Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan's old friend Xanatos had turned to the dark side. When he first knew that at age 9, Kenobi was shocked. After all, it had been Xanatos who had played with him. And even worse, Obi-Wan's old friend Kertis had also turned to the dark side. Although Obi-Wan's other friends remained on the light side, he can no longer play with them.
"Be careful, Padawan!"
Qui-Gon's voice woke Obi-Wan up from his daydreams. When the young Jedi found out that he couldn't sense anything, his Master ignited his own lightsaber and quickly destroyed the last droid in the training hall that was directly in front of Obi-Wan. The Jedi Master deactivated his lightsaber and looked at his student sternly. Kenobi felt that his teacher was looking at him so he removed his blindfold and looked at Qui-Gon sheepishly. "Sorry, Master. I wasn't concentrating on the living Force. I'll try to concentrate next time."
Qui-Gon still looked a bit frustrated. "It's all right, my young apprentice. Come now, we are to meet the Jedi Council." He turned to the door and walked away.
Obi-Wan followed his Master. When the two Jedi got inside a lift tube, the Jedi student asked Qui-Gon why they have to meet the Jedi Council. Qui-Gon replied quietly, "I'm not sure, but it may be about a mission."
Chapter 6
"There were reports about a strange Sith Lord by the name of Darth Kiestan lately, and we believe it is your old friend, Kertis Questan, Obi-Wan." Jedi Master Mace Windu explained to a very confused Obi-Wan Kenobi, who stood in the center of the Jedi Council Room.
Kertis, Obi-Wan thought. How can you do this to me? He woke upon his thoughts and calmly asked Mace, "Master Windu, what exactly did Ker - I meant, Darth Kiestan - do?"
Mace stiffened. "We believed that the Dark Lord had tried to attack the citizens of Coruscant. One thing's for sure: Xanatos was involved in this attack too."
"XANATOS???" Obi-Wan yelled out. He then straightened himself. "But why Xanatos?"
Qui-Gon put a hand on his Padawan's shoulder. "The Masters had seen his face, although Xanatos had tried to hide his features but it didn't fool the Jedi Masters."
"Know that it's hard for you, we do, Obi-Wan," Master Yoda spoke up. "But the truth it is, I'm afraid. Your old friend Xanatos had changed and nothing can stop him, I believe."
Holding back tears, Obi-Wan bowed slightly to the Jedi Council and practically ran out of the room. Qui-Gon followed. The Jedi Master called out, "You cannot hide your fears, Obi - Obi-Wan? Obi-Wan?" The Padawan was gone. The only thing Qui-Gon could see in sight was a note on the ground. Qui-Gon picked it up and read aloud, "Master, I'm very sorry, but I had left the Temple. I took a Jedi starfighter out too, very sorry. I'm going to stop my former friends from destroying the galaxy. If I die, go to my parents and tell them that I'm sorry I was ever born. Good-bye, my master and may the Force be with you. Signed, Obi-Wan Kenobi."
Qui-Gon looked up at the ceiling. "May the Force be with you too, Obi-Wan," he whispered. "For now," Qui-Gon added. "I'm going to rescue you."
The great Jedi Master then stormed off to the Starfighter garage.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own most of the characters in the story, although some characters do belong to me, like Kertis/ Darth Kiestan and Yalere. Thanks, Mr Lucas, for creating these wonderful characters for me to write a story.
