A Day Of Darkness

Part 1

It was a dark stormy evening when Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker finally arrived at their quarters. Anakin has learned to control his fear... somewhat. "Master, may I go to my chambers now?"

Obi-wan sighed then replied: "Yes. We have a long day a head of us."

Obi-wan Kenobi watched as Anakin walked toward his chambers. He sighed inwardly, for he was tired also, but that wasn't what was on his mind. Anakin has a terrible temper. He almost killed another apprentice during a training exercise. Anakin swore he would never let his temper get the best of him again... but Obi-wan knew he was simply lying... perhaps.

"Master, is something troubling you?" He heard a familiar voice say from behind. How long has Anakin been there? He wondered as he turned to face his padawan.

"I am fine, Anakin. I thought you were asleep?"

"I could feel your trouble, Master."

"Is it what happened today? I just lost control once, and already you have me on the path to the dark side!"

"No, I do not! If you would learn to control your anger as you have your fear then I could trust you once again!" Obi-wan spat angrily. He looked into the eyes of his padawan to see nothing. His words had not affected him whatsoever! "I am going out, Master... To see Amidala. Good-bye."

"No you won't!"

But he was already gone. Obi-wan stared blankly at the door. He was such a kind child, but now he has turned into a angry, fearful... beast almost.

* * *

Anakin walked fastly toward Amidala's bedroom. He almost ran into several passerbys. He opened the door and stepped inside to see Amidala staring in a mirror at him.

"Anakin, what are you doing here?"

"I came to see you, my love." He slowly walked over to her and kissed her softly on the side of the face.

His padawan braid fell upon her shoulder as he pressed his lips to her temple. She didn't move, didn't speak. Just savored the moment.

He stepped back to take her in. Her face clean of her make up, her long hair hung freely about her. She wore a white gown, it was simple, unlike the gowns she had on when so many years ago when he discovered she was in fact a queen. No, this one was made for sleep. It came down in a V shape, showing her long, slender neck, her collar bone. She looked up with her beautiful wide eyes.

"I wasn't expecting you. I would have put something more... suitable on." She rose to her feet, and he soon realized her night-gown barely pasted her mid-thigh.

"You always look beautiful, Amidala." She seemed to blush a bit.

"I heard about what happened at the Temple, Anakin." He felt his anger rise a bit.

"I assure you it will never happen again." He rushed over and embraced Amidala in his arms and kissed her passionately on the lips.

She once again savored his sweet kiss. She didn't want him to leave, but she knew he couldn't stay in her bedroom. "No one has to know, my love," he whispered in her eye. She couldn't resist this. She leaned into his embrace letting him support some of her weight. He may be using a Jedi mind trick, but she didn't care. "You're right, Anakin."

* * *

Amidala walked slowly down the hall, her heart pounding. Anakin had asked her not to tell Obi-wan Kenobi his whereabouts, but how could she lie to a Jedi?! She stopped for a second and peered at herself in a mirror. She sighed and begun walking once again.

* * *

Obi-wan sat wearily down, he hadn't gotten enough sleep the night before. He had been worried about Anakin. He had decided to see Queen Amidala about this. Maybe she would know where he was. He watched as Amidala walked in, in a crimson/black gown. She looked up at him.

"Your Highness, have you seen Anakin Skywalker?" He could feel she was hiding something.

"I haven't seen Anakin," She said in her aloof voice.

"If you see Anakin tell him to see me. Immediately." She nodded and begun walking down the hall again. He turned and watched her. "There's more, your Highness." She stopped and turned.

"Yes?"

"The Jedi council thinks Anakin is dangerous, and I'm not sure if I disagree."

"What does that mean?"

"It's once again up to the council to decide Anakin's fate."

"I thought you said he has learned to control his fear!"

"He has... but his anger is another thing."

"You promised Qui-gon Jinn that you would train him though," She said, still with her apathetic voice.

"Yes. I did, but this is different. Anakin is a danger to himself, to others... to you."

Amidala could not believe her ears. He wasn't trying to tell her that Anakin would KILL her, was he?

"I am not happy about this either, but we cannot allow him-" Amidala couldn't force herself to listen anymore, so she walked at a faster pace. But he soon caught up.

"Are you saying Anakin Skywalker is evil?"

"No, no, I'm-"

She turned to him angered now. "You Jedi, think you can judge a persons whole life by one mistake!"

"Not one, your Highness! He's done it a million other times!"

Obi-wan reached out and put a comforting hand on the queens shoulder. "I think it's best if you do not see Anakin Skywalker for a while."

She looked up at him, her ears shined with tears threatening to come streaming down her face. "I won't be able to any way."

"He has went back to Tatooine."

"To see if his mother is all right... to try and free her if she is."

She hated herself for telling on him, but she could tell that this was no joking matter.

"We will wait for his return," Obi-wan said flatly. "Why didn't you tell me before?"

"He asked me not to." She felt sick from all these overwhelming emotions. She wanted to him to be a Jedi... because that's what he's always wanted since he was a child, she didn't want him to kill innocent people, which, if Obi-wan was telling the truth, he possibly could. "I have some things to do, Obi-wan. So if you will excuse me."

"Can we speak later?" Obi-wan asked.

"Yes. Come by my chambers later tonight. We can speak freely, which is best, right?"

He nodded. He could tell the queen didn't want people to panic, which they would if they heard that a Jedi could possibly, if he lost his temper, kill ten people with one movement of his arm.

* * *

The queen walked slowly into her bedroom. Still dressed. She wanted to be in her bed sleeping, but she had promised Obi-wan that they would speak. She was now dressed in a long night gown, she had removed make-up, and let her hair down. Sabe and the other handmaiden retired to their chambers and now were fast asleep.

Suddenly the door opened and there stood the Jedi. "Welcome, Obi-wan." She kept her voice aloof.

"I would have been here earlier, but the council wished to speak with me."

"Have they made their minds up about Anakin yet?"

"No."

She sighed. "Have you heard from him yet?"

"No, he promised he would contact me as soon as he arrived at Tatooine."

A few minutes later Anakin had done as he promised and contacted her. She had told Obi-wan to hide in the closet so he could hear, but could not be seen.

"My love, how are you?"

"I am fine, Anakin."

"Have you found your mother yet?" Anakin shook his had no.

"I only arrived a few minutes ago. But I hope she is still in the same house as when I left."

"When should you be back, Anakin?"

"In a few months." She could tell he was nervous about something but what?

"What's wrong?" She stared into his eyes.

"Will you merry me, Amidala?" She couldn't believe it.

"Of course, Anakin!" She said excitedly. Their connection was breaking up.

"I h... to go, my l..v.. I will cont.... y... to... orrow...." With that the connection ended.

"You're suppose to stay away from him!" She heard an angry voice say from behind her.

"I am not afraid of him, Obi-wan!"

"I am leaving. I'm going to Tatooine!"

"No! You will not Obi-wan!" She grabbed his arm. "What difference is it going to make anyway?" She pleaded. "What are you going to do once you're there? Kill him?"

Obi-wan had no idea what he was going to do. And yes, he probably was going down that road. Reality hit him hard. Was he really going there to kill his apprentice? Help him? Or what? "I... I don't know, your highness. But one thing is certain, he has to be stopped."

"What is he doing!?! He went there to rescue his mother! Not to kill anyone!"

"There's no way that she is still alive, Amidala, and once he finds that out, I fear what he'll do next." He watched the young girl break into tears... young? Girl? She is twenty-three, she isn't a girl anymore. He realized. She put his arms around her, hugging her. "Listen, I know you love him. But he's on a dark path."

"Why do you say such things?" She looked up at him.

"Because he is." They had both became very close friends... he felt as if he were betraying. But Anakin Skywalker has to be stopped. "It is all right. I will not kill him." He kissed her on the forehead.

She looked up at him. Shocked that he was actually showing true sympathy... not just being proper. What he did next shocked her even more. He pressed his lips to hers. He kissed her passionately. She pushed him away. She slapped him across the face.

"Leave!"

A holographic image came up of Anakin. She had hit a button. He had been trying to contact her?!

"What is going on here?" He asked calmly. "Master, what are you doing here?"

"There was a... death threat. Obi-wan was sent to protect me."

"Why didn't you contact ME?" He asked, anger in his voice.

"I wanted you to save your mother."

Anakin stared at her a long while then his face showed calm. "Very well. I believe you. Are you all right?"

"Yes, my love. I am just tired. And Obi-wan was just leaving," The queen said in a neutral voice.

"Then I will let you rest."

"Master, do not bother coming here. I don't need your help. Amidala, why did you tell my whereabouts?"

"I used a Jedi mind trick on her," Obi-wan said flatly.

"Leave my soon-to-be wife alone, Master. She has no useful information for you."

"Good-night, Amidala." With that the holographic image disappeared.

Part 2

Amidala watched as Obi-wan turned to leave. Angered by his actions she wanted to say much, but what would that accomplish? "Obi-wan, wait." He turned and stared at her for a moment.

"Yes?"

"I am glad that Anakin believed my story, however I did not enjoy lying to him."

"Yes, but you were afraid of what he may do if he found out weren't you?"

What is he saying? He kissed me to see how I would react if Anakin contacted me? "I cannot believe you! Are you that bent on destroying Anakin that you would actually kiss me, try to get a rise out of me?"

"No, your Higness. That was most unexpected," He said in a neutral voice.

"Leave."

He stood that staring at her.

"I said, leave!"

He rushed over to her and said, "You can't tell me that you didn't feel anything, your Highness."

"Leave or I will have my guards throw you out."

"Very well, Amidala. But I will be watching you. I won't let Anakin hurt you."

"And what, if that means hurting me then you'll do it?"

"If I must, Amidala."

She turned from him. She walked over to a window and stared out. "I meant what I said before, Obi-wan Kenobi." She turned. The Jedi nodded in acceptance then turned and left.

Amidala sat down on her bed and sighed. Then laid back on a pillow and fell into a deep sleep.

* * *

Anakin Skywalker walked down a street toward Watto's Junk Shop... if it were still there. He came upon it, looked at it. Watto would be asleep now. He contepmlated going in there, destroying the shop then killing Watto, but that isn't Jedi-like. He smiled to himself. He hadn't spoken with Amidala for three months. He really missed her but this wasn't the time to think about that.

He walked down that path which led to the slaves quarters. He walked past several houses then finally his.

He took a deep breath, stepped in side and looked about. He was taken by surprise when a woman ran into the room rambling something then he soon realized that it was his mother. "Mom?"

The woman looked at him for a while then said, "Who are you?"

"It's me, Mom. Your son, Anakin Skywalker."

"Annie!"

She wrapped both arms around her son, and hugged him. "Mom, I've missed you."

"I've missed you also, Annie."

"Mom, I can free you now."

"Oh, Annie. Please don't bother."

"Why not, Mom?"

He looked at his mothers' fragile body. Her hair had grayed almost completly. She looked weak and tired.

"Annie, my child. I'm dying." He couldn't believe his own ears! She can't be dying!

"I love you, Annie. My time grows nearer everyday."

"No, Mom. They have great healers on Coruscant! They can help you!"

"Please, listen to me, Anakin."

"I am dying, there's nothing anybody can do."

"Annie, do you mind if we sit down, I'm feeling sort of dizzy." Shmi walked wearily over to her sofa and sat down. "See-Three-Pio has been a great help though I can't finish him."

"Mom, I can't leave you here. Please, don't do this. Mother, I can't do it, I just can't!"

Shmi looked at her child, tears filled his eyes.

"Mother, Qui-gon Jinn was killed before he could teach me, so he left me in the hands of his padawan, Obi-wan Kenobi. He's terrible! He doesn't want me to finish my training, he doesn't like me!"

"Oh, Annie. That's horrible. Is there somebody you can tell?"

"All the Jedi are against me! They all wanted me to stay a slave!"

Shmi felt terrible. She couldn't cry, she could give any advice. She deals with Watto everyday. "Annie, it will be all right. You will become a Jedi, a Jedi that will make a difference in the galaxy," Shmi said in a low weak voice.

"Mother, I'm sorry, I shouldn't bother you with my problems."

Shmi smiled to herself. Her son his wise, and kind, and caring. "My son, I am your mother, I will gladly listen to your problems."

Anakin watched his mother break into a coughing fit. He ran and grabbed a glass of water then rushed back. "Mom, remember Padme?"

"Yes, the kind young girl."

"She was really a Queen, her real name is Amidala, and I asked her to merry me."

His mothers eyes widened as she heard this. "Oh, Annie. I'm so happy for you!" He smiled as his mother hugged him once again.

She laid back and the sofa and dosed off in five minutes time. He went into his old room. Just the way he'd remembered it. He saw Threepio. The droid looked up at him, and cocked his head to the side. "It's me, Threepio. Anakin."

"Master Anakin, how may I be of service?"

Anakin smiled to himself. "I'm fine, Threepio. I can see you're not though."

"I'm not?" The droid asked puzzled.

"No, you're naked."

The droid seemed to remember that, for he looked about himself. "Sir, if I remember correctly, you left with those Jedi, and couldn't finish me."

"Yes, well, maybe I'll have time to finish you."

"Oh, thank you, sir!"

He laughed then went back into the room with his mother. He looked over at her. He went closer when he didn't see her chest rise. "Mother?" He felt for a pulse nothing. His heart beating rapidly he started to feel her wrist for a pulse.

"Mom! No!" He begun to cry. He rested his head in his hands. "I WILL kill Watto!"

* * *

A few minutes later he found Watto. He awakened the blue alien. "What is thiss!" He hissed.

"I am Anakin Skywalker! Remember me?"

"Yess, yess, it's good to see you-eh." Anakin remover his lightsaber from his belt.

"My mother died a few minutes ago."

"Yess, yess she's eh- been sick for years."

"YOU killed her!"

"No, No!"

"I would never=eh do such a thing to thee! I knew how much you-eh cared for her!" The tiny alien hissed once again.

"Save your pleas! You shall die for what you did to my mother!"

He pulled his lightsaber out. It flashed a redish color.

"NOOOO-"

Too late. He beheaded the small alien.

* * *

Now back at his mothers house he made his way to Threepio and begun work on the droid. He worked until he was finished, which was early that morning. He loaded up the droid and made his way toard his ship.

* * *

Amidala was awakened by a sharp slam on the bed. She rolled over to see Anakin.

"Ah, my love. I am tired"

"Anakin! Where's your mother?"

"She died the minute I arrived."

Amidala looked down saddend by this sudden news.

"I'm sorry, Anakin."

"I brought you a present."

"What, Anakin?"

She looked to see an unfamiliar droid standing in the doorway. "His name, See-Three-Pio."

The droid he was working on as a child? "Oh, he's great!"

"Anakin, I need to tell you something."

"Yes?"

"I'm... I'm pregnant."

"What?"
