The first book I read was I, Jedi. It was so different from the movies and introduced me to new characters. Since then I have been hooked.

I have read/collected most of the books. I just finished Outcast by Aaron Allston. I am interested in seeing how this story line will play out. (There is some great banter between Luke and Ben.)

Great post!
My first SW book was "Star Wars", which of course we now call "A New Hope!" I was 12 (in 1982), and used it to help me type out the entire script for the movie - which I still have!! ;-)
After a looong absence, my first book back to the SW universe was "The Courtship of Princess Leia."
LOTF is a grrrrreaaat series - very well-written! I admire the way the four authors collaborated, yet brought their own personal "flavor" and expertise to each book.
I just finished reading "Wild Space", which was a very good addition to the Clone Wars era, IMO. I still have "Millennuim Falcon" and "Republic Commando" sitting on my shelf...as soon as I get over my current "Twilight" obsession, it's back to SW :-)

Wow! Long time since I have last been here, but that was one of the best articles I have read in a long time.

I agree that female fans have all too often been ignored, and I still get the 'you're a Star Wars fan?! I thought it was only for boys.' when I tell people.

It really annoys me. I mean, I know at least... er... 30 female sw fans that I have met. Many are my close friends from little Denmark, and I know through fora of a whole lot more.

I think they have gotten better at remembering the female fans. They do come up with more merchandise that are meant to appeal to females, and many females are making themselves heard and known in fan communities.
After all, we often do things all the way when we dedicate ourselves to something. I know I do. I might have been my brother, who introduced me to sw, but once I found my own source of info(you gotta love the web) I quickly gave him tail. ;) Nowadays he ask me about everything, 'cause he knows I'm the family expert.

(And yes; I'd take Ewan, Liam and Ray over Leo any day). ;)
