book cover
More revamped cartoon strips from the early eighties. Introduction by Mike Royer.

Stories -- several little adventures, mostly starring Luke, Leia, the droids, and Vader. First our heroes have to deal with a new baddie called Blackhole (who has a bunch of black stormtroopers!); later we return to Tatooine and the Mos Eisley Cantina; later still we meet up with none other than Lady Tarkin! Han and Chewie don't show up until part 6. This book also includes the first comic appearance of Boba Fett, although it's not a great portrayal, IMO.

Artwork -- kinda immature (was it originally aimed at children?), although the 'innocence' is rather compelling after a while.

Chicks -- a good portrayal of Leia as a strong, intelligent character. Also introduces the character of Mira, an unbelievably 'nice' girl with amazing 70s flicky-out hair!

Any good? -- very dated, simplistic, non-canon ... sorry, this just didn't appeal to me. I know Russ Manning is supposed to be some kind of god in the world of comics, and I do appreciate that not many people can write and draw the comics, but I just couldn't take this seriously.

Read it? -- I suppose it is vaguely interesting as some sort of historical document or antique. And I'll admit that it's good for a laugh, especially if you actually remember the 1970s. LOL!

Rating -- 2 out of 10
