Book 3 - 'The Krytos Trap' by Michael A. Stackpole

Bantam Press 1996

Set 3-ish years after RotJ

book cover
Story -- a killer virus is wiping out the indigenous population of Coruscant, a legacy left by the previous administration. The trial of one pilot is causing splits in the new government, as well as Rogue Squadron, while another has been captured by Isard.

Original characters from the movies -- Wedge and Admiral Ackbar. Leia shows up briefly, so does Luke. One new character shows up from the classic trilogy (I'm not saying who it is, but I recognised him immediately!)

New characters -- all the other pilots, Winter, Fey'lya (that Bothan gets everywhere).

Cover art -- X-wings and a space station.

Chicks -- 13 listed pilots at the front of the book include 4 chicks (no officers), Mirax, Iella, Winter.

Any good? -- a bit gruesome (torture scenes, etc.) but no more so than, eg., ESB. Some interesting philosophical bits, some cool space battles, and more inter-species love-stuff. The judicial system in the SW galaxy seems awfully like the US system, but that might just be my imagination...

Read it? -- getting better. Don't have to have read previous novels, but it's probably a good idea.

Rating -- 7 out of 10
