Between 1994 and 1997, West End Games published a series of fifteen 'Adventure Journals' for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Crammed full of useful facts on characters, planets and technology, they are a valuable resource not only for RPGers, but also for writers and fans of the Expanded Universe as a whole. And entertaining, too - many of the short stories have been republished in the "Tales from..." novels published by Bantam Press.
Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties at West End Games, the licence reverted back to Lucasfilms, and there have been no more Adventure Journals published. All journals are marked 'Vol. 1' followed by the issue number. They may be difficult to get hold of, but they seem to show up at memorabilia conventions fairly regularly.
So, what's in them? Short stories, interviews, adventure scripts and ideas, detailed descriptions (and maps/diagrams) of planets, technologies, etc., as well as regular 'snippets', such as 'Smuggler's Log', 'Wanted by Cracken' and the cartoons 'Fragments From the Minds' Eye'. Some of the authors are relatively unknown (but still good, nonetheless!) and some are instantly recognizable - Timothy Zahn, Michael Stackpole, K. J. Anderson, Kathy Tyers... and many more. The stories are accompanied by illustrations and RPG stats on the main characters, planets, etc. and ideas for adventures. There are also some great pictures, both by LFL and by original artists.
